In the dog house

My family is currently furious with me.

Because I didn’t go grocery shopping last week.

And I generally go weekly.

Except it takes 3 hours! to do the shopping.  Two of those are spent driving to and from the store.

THREE hours!

I don’t have that kind of time.  (And we live in an area where going to the commissary, as opposed to going to civilian grocery stores, is well worth the time.)

AND, I actually had enough food to make it through till tomorrow (Tues.) which is my regular shopping day.

So, why go shopping?

Well, I had to pick up milk, but that was a non-issue as I was able to tie that in with picking up Drew from college.

I had more than enough food!

But my family has been griping all week about how we are running out of everything.

Mind you, we’ve had more than enough food, so they haven’t actually gone hungry.

The cupboards are looking bare, but I easily have enough food to actually make another 5 meals! (and tomorrow is Tuesday)

But the family has been stressing.  And every day I’ve been hearing complaining (mostly from Jay).

Now, here’s the interesting thing.

I had more than enough food!  Plenty of cereal, 2 extra bags of bread in the freezer, lots of meals, etc.

But the family went into panic mode, and was afraid that the food wouldn’t stretch so far, so they did what they thought logical. . .

And went after the bread!

So, while I HAD enough food for our normal / typical consumption, I am now fearing I won’t have enough bread for today.  But, all the stuff they were afraid we were going to run out of — plenty of it left.

Which means, I’ll hear it from Jay again. . .(and we’ll have cereal for lunch — which is the main thing they feared we would run out of)

I haven’t worked up the courage yet to inform them that this will now be the status quo.  The new plan is to go shopping every other week.  I figure even if it adds an extra hour (which I strongly doubt) at the store, I’ll be averaging 2 hours a week for grocieries, rather than 3.

Of course, as much griping as I’ve been hearing for the past week, not once has anyone offered up going to the store for me.  Not once!

Because they don’t want to lose 3 hours from their week, either.

Honestly, I wonder if it will ever occur to anyone that my time is just as valuable as theirs?
