Robin’s egg

We had a spontaneous lesson today, as we discovered a perfectly intact robin’s egg just laying in our yard. We have not seen any robins’ nests nearby.

We “candled” the egg (with a flashlight) and determined that it was newly laid. Then, the research began on the internet. . .

I informed the kids that the egg was most likely a dud and would never hatch. Drew, did not like that answer however, and has taken it upon himself to “mother” (incubate) it, and keep it safe.

ETA: It is now Sun. and I had better find out what has become of this egg. I’d hate to find it in a couple of weeks somewhere in his room!
